Aluminum mailbox pedestals provide a low-maintenance alternative to wooden or steel pedestals. The pedestals install in a post-hole concrete footing and have a mounting plate for a mailbox. Before installing the pedestal, check with the local post office to determine the placement in relation to the roadside and the height of the mailbox. With this information in hand, you can install the pedestal in a relatively short time using a few everyday hand tools. Depending on the normal delivery time of the mail, you may decide to install the pedestal on a holiday or after the mail has been delivered.
1
Measure from the edge of the roadside or face of a curb, and mark the location of the pedestal with the point of a digging bar.
2
Refer to the information provided by the post office regarding the height of the mailbox. Measure the length of the aluminum pedestal from the bottom to the mailbox mount, and deduct the specified height of the mailbox to determine the depth of the footing. For example, if the specified height of the mailbox is 36 inches and the pedestal is 50 inches long from the bottom to the mount, the footing is 14 inches deep.

Use the bar and a garden spade to dig an 8-inch diameter footing to the correct depth. Alternatively, use a post-hole digger to dig the correct depth. and shave the sides of the hole with the garden spade so it's 8 inches in diameter. Discard the dirt in a planter or nearby for removal.
4
Position a wheelbarrow near the footing, and string a garden hose to the wheelbarrow. Add a small amount of water in the wheelbarrow, and pour in a bag of concrete post-hole mix. Add small amounts of water as you mix the batch to a stiff consistency, using a shovel. This consistency supports the pedestal while the concrete dries. A bit too stiff or thick is better than too wet.
5
Stand the pedestal in the footing with the mount for the mailbox at the upper end. Mitsubishi starmex aircon user manual singapore. Use the shovel to fill the footing with concrete, and enclose the lower portion of the pedestal to ground level.
6
Plumb the pedestal exactly vertical with a 24-inch level. To do this, hold the level vertically against one side of the pedestal, and move the pedestal by hand until the upper bubble is centered between the bubble lines. Reposition the level at several places on the side of the pedestal, and adjust the pedestal as necessary until the bubble is centered each time.
